World Beer Cup results: Canadian Brewers take 12 medals

May 28, 2012 , ,

The World Beer Cup, also known as “The Olympics of Beer Competition”, is a major international beer competition that is held every two years in the U.S. The 2012 edition was held on May 5th in San Diego.

There were 799 breweries and brewpubs entered from 54 countries, and 284 awards handed out in 95 categories.

Altogether, the U.S. was the leader with 208 medals, but Canada did very well, in particular the Montreal-based Les Brasseurs Sans Gluten, who snagged all 3 medals in the gluten-free category.

It is interesting to note that some of these beers are from small breweries with limited distribution. One more good reason to visit your local brewpubs for their latest specialty beers.
