World Health Day is celebrated on April 7th to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. Each year, a theme is selected for World Health Day, that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world.
The theme for 2013 is high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. One in three adults worldwide has high blood pressure. This proportion increases with age, with one person in ten in their 20s and 30s, to one person in two in their 50s. WHO reminds us that high blood pressure increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. If left uncontrolled, it can also cause blindness.

The team from Radio-Canada’s TV show l’Épicerie requested our help in analysing the results of a study on prices in grocery stores, being conducted by the ACEF in Lower Laurentians.
The study aimed to verify if the first week of the month was still the least favourable, as revealed by a survey conducted in Montreal 10 years ago. The prices of 46 basic items in five supermarkets, Metro, Super C, Maxi, IGA and Wal-Mart grocery store, were surveyed for 4 months.
