In September of 2010, I created a mini post on my Grow with Nutrition Blog about skin health. This week Coca Cola and Sanofi launched the drink Beautific Oenobiol in Europe. This product is aimed at the beauty market and has the claim that four drinks a day may “help strengthen hair and nails, embellish skin, lose weight and improve vitality”. Now, I’m posting a more in- depth segment about nutrition and skin health.

It is that time of year again for spring cleaning. This is a great opportunity to put your kitchen on the ‘to do’ list including the pantry, refrigerator and freezer. The time is now… to remove the contents from each, throw out food items that have expired or spoiled and clean the interior thoroughly. Here are some helpful tips to remain focused on keeping your food safe as you spring clean. Remember these four easy steps…Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill!

It was 2004 and the ‘No Carb Craze’ still had momentum (more in the US than in Canada), when I was invited to a conference about Glycemic Index (GI) with experts from around the world. We were discussing topics such as the recognized scientific method to determine the GI of foods and how the Canadian Diabetes Association educates their patients on GI.
The conference was held in Toronto, the perfect venue, where twenty-three years earlier in 1981 at University of Toronto, Dr. David Jenkins and his colleagues developed a standardized system of ranking foods based on their effect on blood glucose levels known as the GI.

Since the 1980s, Canadians (government, industry, educators, health professionals and consumers) have been talking about health promotion. Now, it is 2011 and we are experiencing an obesity epidemic and an increase in other lifestyle related diseases such as type 2 diabetes not only in the adult population but in the child population.
