Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Ingredients

460 g ground pork, lean
1/2 cup rolled oats, quick 45 g
1/2 onions, diced 100 g
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp ground pepper 2 g
1/2 dried chili peppers 0.2 g
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper 0.4 g
3/4 cup pineapple juice, unsweetened 200 mL
1/4 cup white vinegar 65 mL
1/4 cup sugar 55 g
2 tsp cornstarch 5 g
1/4 cup water 65 mL
1/4 cup canola oil 65 mL
1 yellow or red sweet peppers, sliced 200 g
1/4 pineapple 400 g

Method

  1. Mix ground pork with oats. Add onions, garlic and spices. Mix thoroughly. On piece of wax paper roll mixture into balls – should make about 18 balls.
  2. Heat oil in skillet. Add meat balls and cook for about 10–15 minutes or until thoroughly cooked.
  3. In saucepan, heat pineapple juice and vinegar to a rolling boil. Add sugar. Mix cornstarch with water in separate bowl until thickened. Add cornstarch mixture to boiling juice mixture until thickened.
  4. Add sauce to meatballs and allow to simmer for 2–5 minutes. Add peppers and pineapple and cook for 2–3 minutes.

Observations

Serve over white rice or noodles.
