Discover passion fruit

Granadilla is a vine of the passion flower family, native to Paraguay, Brazil and north-east Argentina. It is cultivated for its fruit, also known as “passion fruit”, which is almost as large as an egg, with an aromatic flesh that contains numerous small black seeds.

This fruit is full of vitamin A and vitamin C, and is used in fruit salads, mousses, sorbets, juices and syrups. The easiest way to enjoy it is to cut it in half and simply eat it with a spoon. You should pick a fragrant and heavy fruit that is slightly soft when pressed and has crinkled skin. If the skin is smooth and shiny, it is better to let it ripen before eating, otherwise it will be a bit tart and not very tasty.

It got its name “passion fruit” from Spanish missionaries in South America, who, upon seeing its beautiful purple flower for the first time, felt that it symbolized the passion of Jesus.
