Preventing irritation of mucous membranes

January 4, 2012

When you suffer from gastric reflux, it is important to pay special attention to certain foods that may irritate the lining of the esophagus and exacerbate symptoms.

Here’s a list of the main irritants and some substitutes:

Coffee (regular and decaf)

Chicory coffe

Herbal tea (no mint)

Alcoholic beverages

Alcohol-free beer and wine

Cola-type soft drinks

Carbonated fruit juices

Citrus fruit and their juice

All other fruits

Fresh herbs

Tomato and tomato juice

Beet juice

Mint-flavoured products

None. Mint must be eliminated completely

Please note that these substitutions are included in our Meal Plans for Gastric Reflux so that you do not need to worry about them if you are subscribed.
