Hockey Mom Tips #1 : Vitamin D and Hockey Players

Even with my nutrition background, I find it hard to know whether or not to supplement my family’s diet with vitamin D when the vitamin D experts themselves are not all in agreement on who should supplement with vitamin D! I think that it is better to be safe than sorry though. So I’m okay with having everyone in the family take a small dose vitamin D supplement. But I always remind my kids that vitamins are called “supplements”, not “replacements”.

Nothing can replace eating a wide variety of healthy foods! I found, on a reliable source of nutrition information, a great list of vitamin D rich foods. Post it on your fridge to make sure that everyone sees it. If you’re having trouble getting enough vitamin D from your diet, you should talk to a dietitian.
